  • SAINT LUKE FAMILY BASH RACES 2026
in Honor or our Past and Present Deacons

    • Honoring Our Deacons: A Legacy of Service

CLICK HERE To Sign-up for a Race

This year's annual races are dedicated to honoring all of the past and present deacons of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church and the countless ways they have served our parish and our community.

A deacon's ministry extends far beyond the altar. Through their dedication to the Church, their families, and those in need, our deacons have been there to celebrate life's joyful moments, comfort us during times of sorrow, visit the sick and homebound, serve the poor, and offer guidance, prayer, and encouragement to so many.

Their service is a powerful example of what it means to live out our Catholic faith—not simply through words, but through a life dedicated to serving others.

This year, we honor that legacy by turning our race into an opportunity to serve as well. All proceeds from the race will be donated to "One Way Love" in honor of our past and present deacons, supporting their mission of helping young people in our community who are facing difficult circumstances.

So whether you run or walk, every step is a tribute.

We run to honor their service.
We walk to celebrate their legacy.
And together, we serve in their footsteps.

Thank you to all of the deacons who have given so much to St. Luke the Evangelist and to our community.

    •  About "One Way Love"

Our Story: From Brokenness to Healing, From Hope to Action

One Way Love was born from a deep understanding of struggle—and the belief that healing is possible when people have the support they need.

Our co-founders, Rosemary and Sandra, know firsthand what it means to walk through brokenness and come out the other side. Their personal journeys, shaped by hardship, resilience, and ultimately transformation, ignited a passion to create a place where young people facing crisis could find stability, support, and hope.

What started as a small outreach effort to help at-risk youth has grown into a community-driven public charity, working to break cycles of homelessness, food insecurity, and systemic barriers that keep young people from thriving.

Through partnerships with St. Tammany Parish Public Schools and the Kids In Transition (KIT) program, One Way Love now serves 150+ students annually, providing them with the resources and relationships they need to build independent, empowered futures.

    • Deacon Mark Pennington
      Ordained - June 2022

Being a Deacon has allowed me to accompany God’s people in their faith journey in a way that might not have presented itself were I not ordained. From the depths of despair to the most joyous occasions. The graces received though ordination have served me well so far, and I trust it will continue to do so. Of particular note and just as important to my ministry is Cindy’s unwavering support, help, understanding, sacrifice and prayer, nothing I do would be possible without it.
    • Dcn. William Faustermann
      Ordained - June 2018
    • Deacon Paul Augustin
      Ordained - Dec. 2008

      Deceased - Nov. 2021

After being parishioners at St. Margaret Mary Church in Slidell, He and Pam were warmly welcomed to St. Luke’s Parish. He loved serving God and was known for his homilies and giving us “homework.” He was always available to assist our altar servers, and cherished his family deeply. One of his greatest joys as a Deacon was baptizing babies, especially his grandchildren, administering First Communion to several of them. Above all, Deacon Paul’s passion was bringing families into the Church and people closer to Christ.

    • Deacon Harold Burke
      Ordained - May 1996

      Deceased - July 2025

Deacon Harold served at St. Luke from that time of his ordination until his death in July, 2025, officially retiring in October, 2024.  In September of 1998, Fr. Rodney Bourg asked him to join his staff as the Liturgist overseeing the planning and implementation of Sunday Masses, funerals, baptisms, and major Christmas and Easter liturgies. Deacon Harold’s greatest joy was serving the people of St. Luke in whatever way was needed—officiating weddings, baptizing babies, helping families through funerals, or simply listening to those who came through his door. His door and his heart were always open.
    • Deacon Ronald LeBlanc
      Ordained - June 2006
      Deceased - Jan. 2023

Deacon Ronald served faithfully in all of his duties especially enjoying RCIA. In addition to his duties at St. Luke he served as chaplain at St. Dymphna, the Catholic chapel on the grounds of the Southeast Louisiana Hospital in Lacombe and also ministered to the residents.
    • Deacon Robert "BOB" Trainor
      Ordained - Dec 1991
      Deceased - July. 2015

Deacon Bob served at St Luke the Evangelist Church in Slidell. Husband of the late Charmaine Trainor. Prior to his ordination, he had a career as an insurance executive and certified financial planner. He proudly served in the US Army as an infantryman in the Korean War from 1951-53. He was especially proud of his work with the cancer support group at St Luke's.

    • Deacon Sidney Boisdore
      Ordained - Dec. 1980

      Deceased - Jan. 1995
    • Deacon Robert "BOB" Binney
      Ordained - 1989
      Deceased - May 2019

Deacon Bob was a warm, kind, welcoming friend and a tremendous help to the people of St. Luke. He entered into the business world after his military service. He was ordained a Permanent Deacon in 1989 and served at both St. Luke the Evangelist and St Margaret Mary Church.  He had a beautiful devotion to the Lord and our Blessed Mother and carried his vocations to marriage and the diaconate with gentleness, humor, and charm.
