At Saint Luke, we believe that no one should face a crisis alone. The Good Samaritan Ministry exists to accompany individuals and families who are experiencing financial hardship, food insecurity, unexpected emergencies, or other difficult circumstances. Through the generosity of our parish family and community partners, we provide practical assistance while helping connect people to resources that can offer long-term support and stability.

More than 99% of all donated resources remain right here in our local community, serving our neighbors in Slidell, Pearl River, and Alton. Every applicant is carefully screened to verify their needs and is referred, when appropriate, to agencies that can provide ongoing assistance and case management.

There are many ways to support the mission of Good Sams. Every gift of time, talent, or treasure helps bring hope, stability, and compassion to those who need it most.

Monetary Donations

Financial gifts allow us to respond quickly when families face unexpected hardships. Donations help prevent evictions, restore utilities, provide emergency assistance, and meet urgent needs that often cannot wait.

Emergency Food Pantry

Our Emergency Food Pantry provides food assistance to individuals and families facing temporary crises, especially those without SNAP benefits or who are experiencing an unexpected emergency.

We are always grateful for donations of non-perishable food and household necessities, including:

• Canned meats
• Peanut butter
• Rice and beans
• Pasta and pasta sauce
• Cereal and crackers
• Canned fruits and vegetables
• Toothpaste
• Deodorant
• Soap
• Diapers and baby wipes

Volunteer Opportunities

Good Sams is powered by volunteers who generously share their time and gifts in service to others.

Volunteer opportunities include:

• Reception and office support
• Phone and client interviews
• Clerical and accounting assistance
• Food pantry stocking and organization
• Tutoring and mentoring
• Fundraising and grant writing
• Special projects and seasonal programs

Whether you can serve a few hours each month or on a regular basis, your presence can make a lasting difference in someone's life.

Professional Services

Many of our applicants face challenges that require specialized assistance. We are blessed to partner with professionals who offer their expertise either at reduced cost or entirely pro bono.

We welcome professionals in fields such as:

• Medical and dental care
• Legal services
• Accounting and financial guidance
• Automotive repair
• Home and housing repair
• Skilled trades and other professional services

Seasonal Programs and Donation Drives

Throughout the year, Good Sams sponsors several outreach programs that support families in our community, including:

• School Supply Program
• Thanksgiving Basket Program
• Adopt-an-Angel Christmas Program
• Other seasonal assistance initiatives

Individuals, families, businesses, and community groups are invited to host collection drives or donate supplies to help make these programs possible.
