Over several years of accompanying parishioners through the loss of a loved one, we've learned that grief doesn't happen in orderly, easy to process stages. It's more like the Lord's Passion:
The sudden and/or great grief of the loss of a loved one (GOOD FRIDAY)
The grief and numbness of acceptance that the person we've lost is not going to come back to us (Holy Saturday)
The hope and desire to reenter into real life (Easter Sunday)
And what to do with the new path that the Lord has lain before us (Easter Monday)
With this in mind, we have put together a vision for Grief Ministry that follows the Lord's healing movements of the heart.
November 2 each year This Candlelight Mass held at Saint Luke each year remembers family members who have died over the last year, and the loved ones of Grief Ministry members.

GRIEF MINISTRY GROUP
The Grief of Holy Saturday
After the funeral of your loved one and when everyone has gone home, there can be a profound sense of silence that can feel like isolation and loneliness. But the silence of Holy Saturday an also be a great time of personal reflection and remembrance and the chance to allow us to make close relationships with God and others. At Saint Luke,, our Grief Ministry Group does more than just "share grief".
We listen, we teach you how to understand the myriad of feelings that are affected by grief, and how to communicate how you feel and receive the comfort you need. Every grief experience is different, and regardless of what you may have heard, grief is not a "process: or felt in "stages". The goal of SLE Grief Ministry is to accompany you and empower you to heal and mourn in your own healthy and holy way. Grief Ministry at SLE has a particularly Catholic and Sacramental slant, so we help you to find support in the Sacraments and in the consoling Sacred Heart of Jesus through Eucharistic Adoration.

GO DEEPER WITH US - GROUPS TO HELP YOU DEVELOP A DEEPER FAITH
The Hope of Holy Saturday
Delving into our Catholic Faith allows us the opportunity to rediscover the hope that Christ came to give us. Bible studies, prayer groups, Eucharistic Adoration, and other ministries that help us grow closer to Jesus' Sacred Heart strengthen us and remind us that the Lord is a God of the living and that we are a Communion of Saints. There are great people in these ministries that will help direct you into a more established Faith and encourage you to keep moving forward.
GIVE OF YOURSELF - THE HEALING LIFE OF MINISTRY AND SERVICE
The New Path of Pentecost
The moment we realize that love is eternal is the moment we realize that God is calling us to build a greater kingdom here. As we give of ourselves, we reestablish reasons to see a future ahead, to overcome the deep grief we've been feeling, and discover new ways to remember and honor the ones we've lost. We can serve in new ways or in ways that have given us joy in the past. Allow your loved ones' purpose to continue to bless others through your generosity and service!
