BLAZE 2: September 28, 2025 - THE BEST STORY EVER TOLD
This BLAZE night will cover the importance of God's salvation story: Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. The Catholic Church is a lived family life with God, and the Bible tells us the WHY (Why we are created, Why the world is good - and we are very good - in God's eyes, and Why we need Him) and the WHO (Who God is, Who we are created to be, and Who we can become with Him and because of His love.) Sacred Tradition is that lived experience: in our saints, in our worship, and in the beautiful and transformative sacraments and liturgies. The natural habitat for Sacred Scripture is, in fact, in the liturgy! We proclaim the Scripture at Mass and live what we hear in our sacraments and in our families.

BLAZE AT HOME ASSIGNMENT: ASSIGNMENT:LECTIO DIVINA FOR KIDS! (45 min) Learning to pray with Sacred Scripture can be a powerful way for your family to get to know and love the Bible. LECTIO DIVINA (or "Divine Reading") is also the best way to prepare for Sunday Mass.
Step 2: LECTIO: Read this passage with your child:
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke:
One Sabbath Jesus was having dinner in the home of an important Pharisee, and everyone was carefully watching Jesus. Jesus saw how the guests had tried to take the best seats.
So he told them: “When you are invited to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the best place. Someone more important may have been invited. Then the one who invited you will come and say, ‘Give your place to this other guest!’ You will be embarrassed and will have to sit in the worst place. “When you are invited to be a guest, go and sit in the worst place. Then the one who invited you may come and say, ‘My friend, take a better seat!’ You will then be honored in front of all the other guests. If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.”
Then Jesus said to the man who had invited him: “When you give a dinner or a banquet, don’t invite your friends and family and relatives and rich neighbors. If you do, they will invite you in return, and you will be paid back. When you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. They cannot pay you back. But God will bless you and reward you when his people rise from death.”
The Gospel of the Lord
Step 3: Stop and think about what the Scripture says. Is there a special word or an image that catches your attention? What does the Scripture say especially to you?
Step 4: MEDITATIO: Now, read the passage again, but slowly, and focus on the things that caught your attention. Write down (or draw) things that you think God would like you to
Step 5: ORATIO: Pray together about what you read, and ask God to help you understand what you read. Ask Him to show you what He wants you to know and learn, and what to do in your life. What are you longing for Him to show you?
Step 6: CONTEMPLATIO: Settle into God's love and see how good He is. It's okay to be a little quiet, so that you can rest in God's company while you think about the passage.
Step 7: ACTIO: What do you think would be good to do about what you read? Do you think Jesus would like you to take some action? Would He like you to stop doing something that isn't helpful? Then TAKE ACTION! Jesus will be with you!
